Provenance Power

Published: Monday, 30 April 2018

Earthoil began growing essential oils in 1997 in Zimbabwe and a year later moved to Kenya shortly followed by Earthoil India. We are proud to provide oils with a story, owing to our ethical and sustainable approach.

Our local or regionally sourced seeds are carefully processed at Athi River, Kenya and are complemented by oils produced in other African countries by dedicated co-operatives.  These are conventional, organic or Fairtrade.

Sustainable and Ethical Sourcing

Sustainable and ethical sourcing is at the heart of our business. We adhere to strict standards from the soil to the oil. Our long-term partnerships, heavy involvement and close working relationships with our growers, ensures full traceability of all our products and ensures the highest standards of products are maintained.

Organic Certified

Earthoil has a unique involvement with the organic process at every level of the supply chain. We guarantee organic standard where it is served and with our own rigorous, analytical testing and screening weensure consistent product quality and service excellence in order to preserve the organic integrity of our organic products. Additionally, to fulfil international customers’ demands, Earthoil is also certified to NOP organic standards by IMO.

Committed to Fairtrade

Earthoil is committed to Fairtrade through Fair for Life certification with the Institute for Marketecology (IMO). With advanced purchasing plans, long-term supply terms and investment in community grower projects we can help improve the livelihoods for our producers. The Fairtrade premium which is also paid on top of the farm gate price is channelled into a separate fund for social, community and environmental projects, providing opportunities for the wider community in rural populations across the globe. The money could help provide desks for schools, scholarships and food for orphanages.

You can rely on Earthoil’s products because of our unique position, being fully involved in the production. Earthoil is certified by the Soil Association for organic Health and Beauty care products, Soil Association EU organic certification, SDA National Organic Program, COSMOS organic standard and COSMOS Approved Treatttaromes.

Whether you choose a natural isolate, an organic grade or one of our increasing number of Fair for Life fair trade ingredients, you can be assured of provenance and performance; quality assured.

6 Best Beauty Trends For Summer

Published: Friday, 25 May 2018
Due to the high absorbency of what consumers put on their skin, natural will give way to clean.  Shoppers will trade in heavy powders for liquid formulas and focus on natural beauty to enhance a natural soft glow. Ingredients such as argan, moringa and avocado oil will be in the spotlight for their moisturising properties as face, body and beauty oils attract more interest from consumers. In 2007, Pinterest reported that searches for cleansing oils were up 555%.
Environmental Impact
The natural beauty industry has seen impressive growth as consumers care more for the environment and strive for more natural products in a bid to reduce any negative impact their consumption has on the planet. Yet as natural plant materials become extinct or rare due to over sourcing, synthetically made materials prove great alternatives to comply with environmental and supply chain sustainability and often at a lower price.
K-Beauty Meets J-Beauty
Korean and Japanese beauty continues to influence consumers’ skincare rituals. Aimed at getting what’s called “glass skin”, beauty-fans will be lightening up on makeup, layering serums for a more dewy, natural complexion. It will be all about the base for an ageless definition. Jojoba oil will be seen in more products owing to its moisturising and anti-ageing properties.
Restorative Hair Care
Blow dry concentrates infused with products such as argan oil are being developed to speed up hair drying times, as well as provide a host of other benefits such combat frizz and add shine.
Roll-on perfume oils are increasing in popularity with an abundance of floral and botanical notes. The benefits of oil based perfumes mean they last longer than spray perfumes which are often concentrated with alcohol and other fillers thus being irritating to the skin.
Anti-pollution and Anti-Blue Light
With levels of pollution staggeringly high  (particularly in Asia Pacific), the concerns over how these levels could be affecting our skin are growing resulting in a market and demand for anti-pollution products. The awareness of the effects of blue light is also increasing . Blue light is light with a wavelength of 400-500nm which can be emitted from sources such as fluorescent lights to digital screens. It is known to generate free radicals, reducing skin’s elasticity and collagen levels which can lead to signs of ageing . Anti-inflammatory oils are gaining traction in order to counteract these environmental concerns.
Beyond Relaxation
With focus on personal wellness, the aromatherapy market is growing due to its reported therapeutic effects. From topical applications to aroma therapy alarm clocks, consumers will be creating the in-home spa experience for maximum relaxation to calm and relax body and mind.
Going to the gym has become more of a social experience. Athleisure has moved from apparel to the beauty industry, to fit around sports-led lifestyles and overall wellness. Fitness shower oils have made their way into the market and claim to help muscle recovery, soothe, hydrate and relieve tension.

Samoa - Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

Published: Thursday, 31 August 2017

The Coconut Craze

Coconut has been one of the hottest ingredients this year and its popularity shows no signs of slowing. It grows prolifically across tropical and sub-tropical parts of the world and its oil has been used as an ingredient in personal care, both as a skin moisturiser and hair conditioner for hundreds of years.

As it continues to gather pace in new product launches, we look at where it’s sourced from.

Sustainable Sourcing

Earthoil supports a virgin coconut oil project in Samoa, run by a not-for-profit women’s foundation. This unique venture is aimed at rebuilding the economic independence of individual villages across the region. The foundation currently works with many family groups, with several virgin coconut oil (VCO) sites already up and running. This means any profit generated from the sale of this material returns to the village and the people within the community.

This week the Javits Convention Center in New York City hosted the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) Supplier’s Day trade show event. Supplier’s Day has become one of the must-attend events for anyone in the cosmetic chemistry industry and is a great place for seeking business development, innovation and education.
