In 2002 Earthoil established a production base in Kenya, initially to undertake the production of papaya seed oil for Body Shop International. Building upon that continuing operation, Earthoil now has a factory in an Export Processing Zone in Kenya, producing in that factory a continuously expanding range of natural oils. The factory has been certified organic – including certification for the USA market.
Kenya is now the centre of Earthoil’s operations in Africa. These operations include a growing number of development projects in which Earthoil works closely with Kenyan farmers – providing guidance and assistance in developing the best organic growing practices for seed crops such as borage and safflower, acting in liaison with commercial farmers on the growing and extraction of essential oils and seed oils, producing a range of oils from oil seeds sourced from around the world, and maintaining a close involvement in and support for the organic movement in Africa.
