India represents another rich source of organic essential oils for Earthoil, with enormous scope for further products from our new production base, established in 2003. In order to meet a growing market demand for organic mint oils, Earthoil established a mint oil production operation in Utter Pradesh, India. Earthoil coordinated forty small-scale mint growers into an organic producers group, to provide organic peppermint, organic spearmint and organic cornmint. These growers have been producing mint oils for over 20 years without the use of any chemicals – making the transition to certified organic production relatively easy.
Earthoil arranged the certification of these farms and assisted in establishing organic farming practices - to ensure the longevity of the programme under organic status. Earthoil now has representation on the ground in India, with the appointment of our own agent who supervises and coordinates production, ensuring product quality, and a supply chain that is regular and consistent.
Earthoil now has the capacity to secure the supply of many different organic oils, and this particular Indian operation will grow to become a major contributor to the Earthoil product range. In addition to our Utter Pradesh project, we also have a number of certified producers from other regions of India – offering an exciting array of organic oils, including – nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper, clove bud, citronella and lemon grass. New products to be added to this list include organic vetiver oil and organic sandalwood oil – all organic and NOP ( USA’s National Organic Program) certified .
